Picture your blog being an elevator, minus the horrendous music. You start on the ground and slowly but surely rise floor by floor until you reach the peak of the building. Everyone starts their blog from the first post, then they continue to grow and obtain a following and eventually reach the top or most well-known blog in their field. In order to get your blog to the next floor, let’s refine your online writing skills.
1. BE PATIENT
Peg Fitzpatrick puts it best, be patient. Like it or not, your blog is not going to be a huge hit after your first post. Your family and friends will start to read your blog, and eventually you will get a steady following.
2. BE CONSISTENT
Your readers want the routine of the posts. Unpredictability becomes a nuisance, your followers do not have to read your blog, they choose to because they rely on you for entertainment or information.
3. WORD CHOICE
Henceforth, I indubitably am agreeable on the attitude that you have no idea what you are saying when you use this type of language. Fancy words do not make you sound smarter and your readers want to be able to easily understand the content. Be concise, you sound much more eloquent.
4. BE ORIGINAL
There are a lot of blogs on the internet, but only one is written by you! Irfan Ahmad stresses to be opinionated and be original. Believe in what you are writing and back it up with facts.
5. HEADLINES ARE IMPORTANT
Mu Lin highlighted an eye-tracking visualizations study by Jacob Nielson that revealed users often read web pages in an F-shaped pattern, meaning, people do not read everything on the screen. You have to grab them with headlines that are interesting yet informational.
